Precision, technique, and practise are required for this craft. So, if your lipstick fades rapidly or bleeds on the outside of your mouth and onto your teeth, let us assist you with these simple techniques to apply lipstick flawlessly. This article contains several hacks and ideas for individuals who are having difficulty mastering like a pro.
To achieve the perfect pout and to make sure it stays, remember to follow these easy step-by-step guide for that everyday look that lasts all day.
What you will need:
1. Lip Scrub: Scrub to buff away dead skin to make applying lipstick easy (no tugging or patchy flakes).Â
2. Lip Balm: Nourish and keep lips hydrated for a smooth and even base.
3. Lip Liner: For an everyday look, you'll want to choose a lip liner shade close to your natural lip colour. For bold or brighter lip looks, choose a lip liner that matches your lipstick for easy blending.
4. Lip Brush (optional): Get yourself a lip brush, for an extra precise look.Â
5. Concealer: Use concealer to sharpen your lip liner and to clean up edges.
6. Lipstick: To define the look and colour you must wear a lipstick. Check out some of our favourite nude, and red lipsticks for more inspo.
7. Lip Gloss: Layer your lips with some glassy or glitter lip gloss to makes the shape of your lips look even more pillowy. You can also layer it on top of your lipstick for a 3D glossy effect.Â
Step 1: Exfoliate & Prep Your Lips. Â
Exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub to brush off any dry skin. Next, follow up with a lip balm or lip oil to create a smooth canvas. (Tip: Apply a small amount of lip scrub on a dry toothbrush or damp washcloth to exfoliate. Remember to be gentle to avoid micro-tears in your skin.)
Step 2: Prepare the Base with Concealer.
Apply a little quantity of concealer just outside your lip line and work your way around your top and bottom lips. With your fingertips or a moist sponge, blend it into your foundation until it reaches the edges of your lips.
Step 3: Line Your Upper & Lower Lips
If you're going to use a classic lip pencil, make sure the tip is sharp and new. To soften a too-sharp tip and warm up the product so it mixes more readily, draw several squiggles on the back of your fingers. To begin, draw a "X" to identify the highest points of your cupid's bow. Then, in small strokes, work your way out from the high points to the outside corners of your lips. If you are after a more natural look, blend the edges of your lips.Â
Draw a line over your bottom lip. Once again, begin at the middle of your lower lip and work your way out towards the corners of your lips, remaining just inside the natural contour of your mouth.
Step 4: Fill Your Lips
Apply lipstick to your bottom and top lips and smear them together softly to blend the colour out. Blend the lip liner into the lipstick with your lip brush or fingers. When you're happy with the coverage and blend, blot your lips on a tissue, then dab a little extra lipstick over the middle of your lips and press them together again. Voila!
Extra Tips:
If your colour bleeds or smudges during the procedure, clean up the lines with a cotton bud and reapply any concealer you may have wiped off.
